MY ALT BUSINESS CARD

Business cards were all the rage when going to Alt last year, so I wanted to do something a little extra special this year.  I had this idea to make these little bookmarkers as a business card for a long time.  So I prepared a bunch for Alt, and I thought I’d give you a little DIY on how I made them.

The idea was inspired by a bookmarker I bought when I was in Prague (see below):

It’s such a simple concept, but it makes for a cute little bookmark.  So I set about making my own version…

I got these laser-cut wooden tags made with my blog name and web address on the back.  Then I bought suede strings (there are tons on Etsy).  And I collected a few charms – the leaf charm and the antique keys.

Measure the string against a book to get the length of the bookmark, making sure to include a little bit extra for gluing.  You want the charms to hang out just slightly at both ends.

Then, pull the string through the charms, add some super glue (I use Gorilla glue), and fold the string back.  Hold it in place for 30 seconds to ensure it really sticks.  Repeat on other side.  Allow to dry.

A tip: it’s best if the charms at both ends have a little bit of weight to them, but if not, make sure at least one has a little weight (for mine, the key was the weight).  It’ll make the bookmark sturdier.

And that’s it!  All it really takes is a few charms, string, and superglue, and you can easily create an adorable, unique bookmark!

Getting anything from you is always a special treat. I’m sure everyone at ALT was thrilled to have something so unique. PS… there needs to be more skeleton keys in the world.
