BOOKSHELVES: ALLI OF HOORAY

I was thrilled when Alli of Hooray agreed to do this post about her books!  Alli is one of my favorite bloggers (she is such a sweetheart!), and her blog is so clean and beautiful.  I love that, in the absence of big built-in bookshelves, she still finds creative ways to incorporate books into her home…

I’ve always dreamed of having big bookshelves full of books and keepsakes in my home (built-ins, of course!).  There are so many memories tied to books we’ve received as gifts, discovered at thrift shops, or simply purchased because we loved, and I like how bookshelves can become this evolving part of you in your home.  For now, though, we just have wall shelves in a few rooms that hold some of our favorite books on display.  The rest are dispersed around the house (design books on the coffee table, husband’s Star Wars books on the nightstands, novels stacked on dressers, and more Star Wars books I’ve tried to hide in closets…).

We have this corner nook in our living room with one of those aforementioned handy wall shelves, I think they really allow vintage books to become mini works of art.  The three books on display have a lot of meaning to me – the first is a vintage copy of Pride & Prejudice I recently bought (I try to pick up old copies of it whenever I come across them), and the orange and green books are both handed down from my parents (one is a 1928 copy of Bambi!).  They both have the sweetest little illustrations on the inside covers too.

The classic Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen.  I’ll never forget reading it for the first time in high school and how all of us girls in the class were swooning over the storyline (definitely the best book we were ever required to read in class).  Even aside from the romance in her books, I appreciate Austen’s sense of humor, and how a lot of her themes and viewpoints on society back then still apply to modern times.  Oh, and I do enjoy good ‘ole modern works too – I just finished The Reader and am starting The Help.

Thank you so much, Alli, for showing us your beautiful vintage books, and how you incorporate them into your home!

Love the pictures of your books. It’s so interesting to see the kind of things people read and keep around.

Beautiful still lives you created with those books! I too love making my books part of the interior, like pieces of art.

I think it was very smart the way you have displayed these with no bookshelves! Love your style.
And Pride and Prejudice is a favorite. I am also starting to read the Help. Let me know how you like it!
