BOOKSHELVES: DIONNE OF CITY OF DIONNE
Dionne is one of the most talented bloggers I know! Her blog, City of Dionne, is filled with gorgeous layouts, pretty illustrations…and so much eye candy, you would think you’ve fallen into a fairy tale. She was so sweet in sharing so much about her life and home and beautiful treasures with her “bookshelf” today…
Technically, this isn’t a bookshelf. But it once sat in a library, and is familiar with books, so my library card catalog pretty much acts as a shelf of some sort in our home. My husband Brian got it for me, and it’s my favorite piece of furniture – I love all the little drawers and how they go back really deep – I keep all sorts of little collections in this.
First of all, my husband got me this lovely piece to house all my tea cups. I LOVE tea cups. I collect them, and am always on the lookout for unusual pretty little treasures to add to my collection. So about two rows of these drawers house my growing collection. A lot of these drawers also hold little ramekins. I am constantly baking, so these are the perfect size to stow away my little creme brulee cups and tea cake molds when not in use.
Another thing I like to collect are children’s books. Anything with gorgeous pictures, or a quirky story – I find great joy in finding a good children’s book, even though we don’t have any kidlets of our own just yet. My two favorites are the ones in this image. One is called “The Incredible Book-Eating Boy” which is about a boy who eats books to learn information, but gets stomach aches from it. The other is called “Memorial” and is a war memorial in my home country of Australia, with amazing illustrations.
While it’s not a children’s book – I have an old, old copy of Shakespeare’s works, filled with old lithographs and sonnets and plays. I love the ornate gilded cover, but most of all I love it because the word Shakespeare on the front is spelled incorrectly, hahahaha! Something so beautiful with such a huge flaw, hahahaha – I love it!
I love to cook, and my husband does not – so whenever he does cook, it’s cause for celebration in our home. One time he made handmade spring rolls, and I couldn’t resist taking a photo of such a rare event. I have this photo displayed beside a picture of my Mum and my Aunt – two ladies that I really love and admire, and who have helped shape my life.
Something that I always have with me is a camera. I love photography, and always have. Back in high school I was always snapping pictures of all my friends, and in the moment, they complained about it – but today they all look back wishing they had taken photos like I had. I can’t really display my digital camera, so I have two little vintage brownie cameras to remind me to capture every possible moment.
Thanks for taking a peek at my library card catalog and it’s little friends!

She has the sweetest blog!
Really I had to leave or I’d be moving in…
Thank you so much for sharing.
I love Dionne, she was one of the first bloggers I met in real life!! ;) What pretty pics, I would expect no less from her having such a great/creative piece as her bookshelf! *sidenote: I really want that MUSTARD typewriter, hehe.
I love Dionne so much! Her talent is unreal and I just love everything she posts. She did one guest post and now I’m like “uhh… do you want to just post for me all the time?” It’s like stepping into a different world with her.
That may not be a bookshelf, but I think it’s even cooler. I wonder what fun little treasures can be found in the other drawers. And I love Dionne — she’s just incredible.
i’ve always wanted a library catalog and this one is perfection! the fact that it holds a bunch of adorable tea cups makes it even more swoonworthy!
