ARTSY LIVING: AN OUTDOOR MOVIE PARTY

Our backyard movie night last weekend was a great success! After months of planning, it was such a relief that it went off without a hitch, and that everyone really enjoyed themselves. It was so much fun getting to hang out with all our friends (whom we hadn’t seen in so long!) and laugh and exchange stories, and finally cozy up to watch a movie.

Mardy and I picked up six dozen red balloons that we lined up from the street, all the way up the driveway, leading our guests into the party. (A sort of “red carpet” :)

I set up a popcorn booth with a random assortment of things I collected at flea markets. (The spotlight lamp is one of my favorite things ever.) We also got all our favorite boxed candies and got three different types of popcorn (regular butter, Hurricane, and Pirate’s Booty).

There were lots and lots of drinks.

Our movie screen and seats were all set up just in time, right before all our guests arrived!

We also created a photo booth, of course (It isn’t a real party without a photo booth, right? :). Mardy and I converted a big wooden gazebo into “Mann’s Chinese Theater”, hung red velvet up, gathered all sorts of props, and took goofy photos.

All the boys.

And all the lovely ladies.

Right before the movie started, I handed out pre-packaged s’mores to everyone (as inspired by this tutorial) – each of the seats had a side tables with a candle for making s’mores during the film.

We watched Anchorman :)

Mann’s Chinese Theater, lit up at night.

We even put up a Hollywood sign!

Everyone got all cozied up in their seats. They brought blankets and pillows…one couple even brought a sleeping bag! :)

It was such a fun, fun night!

This looks so cozy! Seems like you've done an enormous job to organize it all and even though they say planning is the best part, one can really see you all enjoyed the party. And nice garden btw :)

For real! THIS IS SO INCREDIBLY AMAZING/IMPRESSIVE. Straight up hardcore movie night done RIGHT. You and Mardy did such an amazing job. Bravo. I don't know what I love the most – the balloons, the lights (ah, those lights! do you keep them year round?! I would;) ), the drink supply ;), the props. Everything looks so cozy and amazing. Job well done:)

Thanks for all the sweet comments! :)

pen.ny –
We set up those lights just for the movie party, and it was so much work, so we decided to keep them up all the time! :) I love them too – I think they really set the scene for the party!

I can say that in my entire wwwife I've never – as in N.E.V.E.R – seen such a fun, loving, sweet detailed, full of gorgeous people and absolutely glorious hosts party. EVER!

When I get down from cloud nine I'm calling the Golden Globes Hosts and put them to shame :).

Thank you for sharing and have a lovely weekend!
